Lightning Talk is a special presentation session of the Bangla WikiConference, where participants can present an idea, project, experience, research or initiative in front of everyone in a short time. The duration of each presentation is 5 minutes. The purpose of this is to share new ideas and experiences and to create discussion and interest among the participants.

What is a lightning talk?

A lightning talk is a very short presentation, usually lasting only a few minutes. A short presentation is usually given at a conference or similar event. A single session can typically include multiple short presentations by different speakers. Certain short presentation formats, such as Pechacucha and Ignite, use a set number of slides and advance them automatically at set intervals. You can use this format if you wish, or you can design your own presentation.

Presentation instructions

  • 5 minutes is a very short time. So instead of a long introduction, get straight to the point. Explain at the beginning why the topic is important and why the audience should be interested in it.
  • Focus on a single idea, project, or experience. Avoid unnecessary details and get the main message across clearly.
  • Use a few brief examples or facts to support your point, and end in a way that makes the audience want to know more about the topic.
  • You can use slides if you want, but it is not mandatory. If you do use slides, keep them simple, short, and easy to read.
  • Practice a few times beforehand to make sure you don't miss the deadline. If possible, try to time your presentation in front of others.
  • There will be a timekeeper during the presentation. You must finish your presentation when the allotted time is up.

Some suggestions

  • Start with the main point—avoid long introductions.
  • Use clear and simple language so that everyone can easily understand.
  • Focus on one topic; don't try to present multiple ideas in the same presentation.
  • Be aware of the time and finish your speech within the allotted 5 minutes.
